2016 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Ultra
Two new special Softail models with high performance engines, two new Dark Custom Sportsters and the return of the Road Glide Ultra spearhead Harley-Davidson’s 2016 line-up.

Two months ago the Harley-Davidson Motor Company presented its 2015 second-quarter (Q2) earnings displaying a minor drop in the range of 1 percent compared to the same period last year. While the situation may not be severe, the company’s stock has been under some pressure since the beginning of 2015 and a return to positive figures would be most welcome.
2016 Harley-Davidson Street 500/750
The 2016 line-up features some powerful new motorcycles and updates to existing models that you'd expect almost any rider in the street to ask for. The biggest overhaul in the company's history (dubbed Project Rushmore) has been taking effect in the last two years, and during that time Harley will no doubt have collected an abundance of customer feedback. One result of this is the return of the ever popular Road Glide series – whose abolition from the company’s lineup in 2014 was not well received – culminating in the return of the Road Glide Ultra for 2016.
Upgrades like the beefed-up brakes of the entry level Street series and the new Sportsters with higher spec suspension are another indication that Harley-Davidson is listening to people’s remarks, especially in these two families that include its most affordable models – the entry point for tomorrow’s loyal customers.
Let’s take a closer look at the highlights of the 2016 model line-up.
S-series Softails
Two new limited edition models are introduced for 2016, the Fat Boy S and the Softail Slim S. Both are equipped with the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine, a high-powered unit that until now was reserved only for the exclusive CVO (Custom Vehicle Operations) models.
As is the case for all Softail models as of 2016, electronic throttle and cruise control will be part of the standard equipment.
The Fat Boy S will be available in an all-black color scheme, while the Softail Slim S opts for a olive gold look.
Prices are yet to be announced for these two limited editions.
Road Glide Ultra
Two years ago Harley-Davidson scrapped the Road Glide family from its Touring line-up. In 2015 the basic Road Glide and the Special return, having undergone the Project Rushmore treatment. Now it’s time for the top of the line FLTRU Road Glide Ultra to come back.
The Road Glide Ultra is powered by the Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 engine and sports ABS, cruise control, radio and a security system as standard equipment.
The high end bagger will go for $25,699 to $26,999 in the US depending on the color option.
XL1200X Forty-Eight
Based on the large capacity Sportster, the Forty-Eight comes with a fresh Dark Custom styling and several technical improvements.
The most important updates for 2016 feature new front forks with cartridge technology and triple-rate progressive springs, combined with new triple clamps and a fork brace, as well as a fresh pair of emulsion rear shock absorbers with 50 mm of preload adjustability.
Upgrades also include a newly designed seat, new cast aluminum wheels, black belt guard and chrome exhaust shields.
The new Forty-Eight will be available in USA for an MSRP ranging from $11,199 to $11,649, depending on the color of choice.
Iron 883
The updates previewed for the Iron 883 are similar to those Harley-Davidson applied to the Forty-Eight. The bobber that is based on the smaller capacity Sportster model gets a new front cartridge fork and two rear emulsion shocks with adjustable preload.
Several blacked-out elements include the belt guard, front fender, brake rotor, air cleaner cover and both exhaust mufflers.
The new Iron 883 is priced at US$8,849 for the solid color options and $9,299 for the Hard Candy Custom colors.
Other models
2016 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic
Here's a quick run down of other notable changes to the range:
At public request, the Street 750 and 500 models get upgraded Brembo brakes.
All the members of the Softail family feature for the first time electronic throttle and cruise control as standard.
The 2016 Heritage Softail Classic enjoys refreshed styling and a new engine, the air-cooled High Output Twin Cam 103.
The High Output Twin Cam 103 is as of 2015 the standard engine for all Dyna models – although for some reason the Street Bob is excluded from this update.

Harley-Davidson unveils lineup for 2016
By Rick Barrett
Harley-Davidson Inc. has unveiled its 2016 model year lineup, which includes the company's most powerful cruiser bikes ever and the return of the Road Glide Ultra.
The new bikes will begin arriving at dealerships immediately, the company said Sunday night.
New Fat Boy S and Softail Slim S cruisers will have the company's Screamin' Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine, with power once reserved for the Custom Vehicle Operations motorcycles. The rest of the Softail lineup will have the High Output Twin Cam 103 engine as standard equipment.
The Softail Slim S will be available in a new olive-gold-denim color with military- inspired styling.
"While the olive gold paint and star graphic are reminiscent of the WLA military models Harley-Davidson built during World War II, the Softail Slim S pays homage to the postwar chop-ups made from those bikes after the war," said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson director of styling.
"
Those garage customs started the bobber era that continues to inspire our styling team," Richards added.
Harley stylists gave the Fat Boy a darker, more menacing look in the S series.
"When we started styling the Fat Boy S, we took it completely black, and then we pulled it back a little until our gut told us it was right. We kept the highlights on the wheels and the tank badge, but this is still the darkest Fat Boy ever," Richards said.
For the first time, electronic cruise control is available on all Softails. And after a two-year absence from the touring bike lineup, the Road Glide Ultra is back.
"Since its introduction in 2011, the Road Glide Ultra has been the bike of choice for Harley-Davidson owners who ride the hardest and longest," said Paul James, Harley-Davidson motorcycle product planning director.
"In fact, our research shows Road Glide Ultra riders rack up more miles per season than owners of any other Harley-Davidson model," James said.
The new Forty-Eight motorcycle has a burly 130mm front tire suspended by 49mm forks. It has chopped fenders to expose the tires and a classic 2.1-gallon peanut fuel tank.
"The low handlebar and forward foot controls put the Forty-Eight rider in an aggressive posture, so we picked up on that with the styling," said Ben McGinley, the lead stylist on the project. "The big front wheel is like a steamroller coming down the street, and we went with the smaller round steel air cleaner and some chrome on the exhaust to draw your eyes to the engine, which looks larger under the peanut tank. I'd describe the theme of this bike as functional muscle."
The new Iron 883 has clipped fenders, blacked-out powertrain and exhaust, drag-style handlebars and a solo tuck-and-roll seat cover. Bullet-hole details on the belt guard, exhaust shields and front fender brace recall a racer's effort to lighten the bike.
Colors and finishes for the Iron 883 were selected to help hide the grit and grime of riding and living in an urban environment, for riders who don't own — or care to own — a garden hose and a driveway.
"It's always been my vision that this bike will look better with some dirt or patina," said Senior Stylist Dais Nagao, who led the Iron 883 design project. "It's quick and nimble and encourages the rider to be aggressive. As it's ridden, it may get some scuffs, scratches or other character marks. We can't do that at the factory."
The 2016 CVO Limited model features an all-new paint scheme and new tank badges. The new CVO Road Glide Ultra is available in three new paint color combinations with revised comfort and technical features. The new CVO Street Glide has four new color options.
"Each year we work to make the new CVO motorcycles even more exclusive with content not available on a regular-production Harley-Davidson, along with an extreme level of attention to detail in design and finish," said Brian Nelson, Harley-Davidson principal stylist.
The CVO program is often used to introduce new technologies, custom components and paint and graphic techniques before they're offered as original equipment or accessories.
For 2016, three new technical features debut on each of the CVO motorcycles:
■A tire pressure monitoring system integrated into the valve stem on each wheel provides a warning of lower-than-optimal pressure. Tire pressure can be viewed anytime through the odometer or the information screen of the infotainment system. The warning alert is displayed as a pop-up screen.
■A new integrated key fob combines the functions of the electric luggage locking system and the proximity-activated security system, replacing two previous fobs with a single device.
■New LED front turn signals combine modern style and long bulb life with increased light intensity.

Hot Metal Harley-Davidson's Dahn-Tahn Hoe-Dahn
Hot Metal
Harley-Davidson’s Pittsburgh-Country themed “Dahn-Than Hoe-Dahn” drew a huge
crowd on August 15th! The weather was beautiful, the bikes were
plentiful and there were many prizes to go around.
This event was one of Hot Metal Harley-Davidson’s biggest of the year with free food, free beer, live music by the Justin Fabus Band, a mechanical bull and prizes and giveaways every hour.
In addition to our Open House, Colin Harding who is a Life scout, was working on his Eagle Rank from Troop 323 out of Whitehall PA during the event.
Colin along with the help of Hot Metal Harley-Davidson was able to raise over $2,400 in Donations. With the help of the Mon-Valley HOG chapter donated $700. Eight scouts and their parents came to help as well as Colin's Family.
All Donations collected by Colin will be presented to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. The proceeds will be used to supply the Teen Center and the playrooms with items that are not normally received by general donations.
The $700 from the Mon Valley HOG chapter will be used to purchase a projector (so that they can have "drive-in movie" night) and the balance will purchase an apple TV, outdoor Play houses, a train table, video games, soccer balls, Barbie’s, Legos and more!
In addition to donations, there were many prizes given away at event. Gift Cards redeemable at Hot Metal Harley-Davidson were given out to mechanical bull-riding participants every hour. A Gift Certificate to Pino’s Contemporary Italian Restaurant and two Pittsburgh Penguins tickets were raffled off as well as an autographed Mario Lemieux hockey puck.
Hot Metal Harley-Davidson would also like to thank our vendors who participated including Iron City Beer, Identity Crisis Design, Old Allegheny Smoke Shop, and Thunder Roads Magazine.

Hot Metal Harley-Davidson Lives up to it's name!
It’s been HOT at Hot Metal Harley-Davidson in West Mifflin
over the past weeks. As winter skipped
over spring and slammed right into summer, our season kicked off with a huge
turnout with hundreds of bikes and people at our Spring Opener on April 18th.
There was free food, beer, and refreshments from Noon ‘till gone all while 3-Car Garage played to the large crowd in our parking lot. There were also vendors, prizes, and giveaways, one of which was a new leather jacket worth up to $450 won by Jason Henderson! Pastor Dan held a blessing of the bikes at 2 PM from Bikers for Christ.
Our next big event named “Refuel Fridays” Kicked off on May 8th! These once-a-month events are basically bike nights on steroids held at the dealership the first Monday of every month through out the summer. In typical Hot Metal Harley-Davidson fashion there was free beer, a live band, food and refreshments as well as prizes, giveaways, and vendors.
Kicking off our first Refuel Friday was “The Next” a band fronted by our very own Sales Manager, DJ Vizyak. Mulligan’s Sports Bar and Grill supplied the burgers & dogs, and Hot Metal Harley-Davidson supplied the cold Iron City & IC Light beer.
In addition to Refuel Fridays, Hot Metal Harley-Davidson will be sponsoring Bike Nights at Quaker Steak and Lube on Wednesday nights (weather permitting) from 6:00 PM until it’s time to go! MotorClothes will have a display as will bike sales while Rocky Marks spins the tunes from the top of the hill!
Hot Metal Harley-Davidson will also be doing our annual Ride to see Kid Rock on June 28th. Tickets are still available for sale at the dealership for $20 with a waived service charge fee for all Hot Metal customers. We’ll get together in the parking lot at 2:00 PM for a pre-tailgate party and entertainment, and will have kickstands up at 4:30 PM for a police-escorted ride to First Niagara Pavilion! We will be doing the same for Toby Keith later this summer.
