Putting Your Bike in Transport Mode to Save Your Battery

Very few of us want to put our bike on a trailer to take it anywhere, but living in a climate that has four seasons sometimes requires us to put our beloved friend in a trailer to get from point "A" to point "B". 

With the start of Daytona Bike week this past weekend, many riders kicked off their week-long adventure with a dead battery?  Why?  Because they didn't put their bike in "Transport Mode" and their battery was drained.

Why does it do this?  Because the bike is constantly in motion in the trailer.  When the bike shifts, it searches for the security fob to do what it's supposed to do, secure the bike from getting stolen.  Because of all the shaking in the trailer the sensor is running the entire time, thus draining your battery.

This is why you should always keep your battery on a tender, and always put it in "Transport Mode" before you take it anywhere on a trailer.  Todd, our Sales Manager at Hot Metal Harley-Davidson is going to show us how to turn it on!

Rocky Marks put a list of things together to take on your trip. Hot Metal Harley-Davidson in Pittsburgh, PA had two HUGE workshops last week with performance and the BOOM! HAS YOUR HARLEY-DAVIDSON® BEEN LOCKED AWAY ALL WINTER? DEWINTERIZE YOUR MOTORCYCLE!

We’re seeing signs of Spring here at Hot Metal Harley-Davidson! Sure we may get flurries one day, thunderstorms the next, and then sunshine the following day, but we are less than a week from March! This means it’s time to pull your Harley out of the garage and get it ready to hit the road again! Here are some helpful tips to dewinterize your bike:

1. If it’s covered, take the cover off your bike and dust off any cob webs, bugs and anything else that has been made your bike its home since your last ride!
2. Replace the fuel in your bike with fresh fuel.
3. Check your break fluid levels, battery and air pressure in your tires.
4. Change the oil.
5. Remove any rags from your exhaust pipe.
6. Clean and lube your bike!
7. Fire up your bike and make sure there aren’t any uncommon sounds.
